Between opening time and about 10:15, Ephesus belongs to the storks, the cats, the cleaners, and the few visitors who set an alarm. The marble is cool, the light comes in low across the columns, and you can stand alone in the middle of Curetes Street — a sentence that stops being possible for the rest of the day.
Why we built a tour around a time of day
Because in July and August the difference is not romantic, it is practical: the site can take in several thousand cruise passengers before lunch, and the temperature climbs past 33°C by mid-morning. Walking the same route ninety minutes earlier is simply a better version of the same purchase. We have guided this site for years; if we could only recommend one change to any visitor’s plan, it would be this one.
The route
Your driver has you at the upper gate for opening. We go straight to the spots that flood first — the Library of Celsus square and the theatre — then back up through Curetes Street as the first groups trickle in. Two and a half brisk-but-not-rushed hours, and you’re drinking çay in Selçuk while the queues are still forming.
Because this tour visits Ephesus, lunch is included in the price — an early, unhurried one at a table of our choosing, while everyone who slept in is still queueing in the heat. This is what that table looks like.

Is 2.5 hours really enough?
For the main street and theatre at an empty site, yes. If you want the full four-hour version with the Terrace Houses, book the Private Ephesus Tour instead — or tell us and we'll simply extend on the day.
We're coming from a cruise ship — can we make opening time?
Usually yes if your ship docks by 07:30 in Kuşadası; the port is about 25 minutes from the gate and your driver will be waiting at the exit. Tell us your ship and we'll be honest about whether it works.
